From the Bronx
to Long Island
Brothers Carl and Philip DelPrete grew up the sons of an Italian immigrant butcher — spending their childhoods in the Little Italys of Brooklyn and the Bronx, where neighborhood markets were the center of community life. In 1998, they began to bring that world back to Long Island. Their first store, East Meadow Farms, on Hempstead Turnpike was where it all began.
“We made a conscious decision to create an Italian-centric market, reminiscent of the experience we had as kids — the Little Italys of the world, Brooklyn and the Bronx.”
— Carl DelPrete, Co-FounderIn 2001, partner Tom Barresi was brought into the business and the team rebranded the operation. Named for Carl and Philip’s uncle Giuseppe, the Marketplace grew from a single 7,800-square-foot shop into one of the most beloved specialty marketplaces in the Northeast. Still made from scratch. Still run the same way it always has been: with pride, with love, and with really good food.
